At the 2021 annual meeting, the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club decided through a membership vote to begin a program to spray the areas surrounding the lake for mosquitos, similar to as we do for tent caterpillars.
Kontrol 30-30 was the material used to spray and it was not a concentrate, it is essentially a 1:5 ratio mix. This equates to just 0.36 oz. of Kontrol per acre. This low concentration application is targeted to control the mosquitos and not effect other other insects such as house flies. The vendor, spray and concentration are the same as contracted by the New York State Department of Health for their Mosquito and virus control spraying over various cities and counties across the state.
Moving forward, we are working to ensure that better communication and public information is provided to better inform the community, which is why the section regarding mosquitos on the website was posted and will continues to be updated.
The spraying was prompted by the need to control the mosquito population for both convenience and to reduce the viability of transmission of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) as it continues to creep closer..
